One World One Beat - the Scottish participation in World Thinking Day 2010
One World One Beat - the Scottish event was held at Ingliston Royal Highland Showground, outside Edinburgh, on 20/21st February 2010. Many TG members were stewarding at this event both directing traffic outside the arenas and inside the huge Lowland Hall, where 1500 girls assembled on each day from all compass points of Scotland, many of them having been up since 5 am or earlier to reach the venue for 9.am registration.
It was a privilege for those of us no longer active with units to share in this celebration, which was so well organised and well prepared in every aspect.
We were on duty from 8am both days, finishing up around 5pm when the last bus had gone home and the hall swept and left in good order.
Some of our TG volunteers were amongst those outside people acting as traffic wardens within the showground area, as fire marshalls, as escorts taking groups of rainbows and Brownies from one area to another, all in very sub-zero temperatures - but crisp clear days.
Others were stewarding inside the big Lowland Hall, helping with registrations and general support for the leaders with their girls moving from one session to another. Then there were those helping with the craft sessions, meticulously prepared before the event.
Some photos of the event are in our Picture Gallery. Look out for the distinctive yellow jackets of stewards! Only a few pictures of TG members though.
